| taylor renae, calc II meltdown, & summer reads ... |
i've kind of begun to think of this blog as my less public blog so - yea-ay! there is an advantage to this - i can probably say things on here that i wouldn't normally say on my myspace blog b/c i know i don't have as many readers here as the other ... but anyway ... it's not like i have a whole lot of deep dark secrets to keep from the public eye - muahaha!
so --- j is an uncle - again :) ... sis-in-law maggie just gave birth to a sweet baby girl named taylor renae rauch - 7 lbs & change :) ... she's the first baby of the bryant/bechtoldt lineage w/in normal standards for birth weight in her generation ... gives me hope that maybe my own second born might weigh in at relatively normal too? hah! fat chance - knowing my family history, i'll probably end up with gestational diabetes again & have to get a c-sect - again ... actually, j & i talked about it & we may end up just scheduling a c-sect no matter what - it was just too stressful for us with the whole labor & pushing baby out thing ... yuck ... :( ... anyway, j, auds 'n i will be making the trip over to tennessee to see the rauch family in a couple of months - exciting! i've never been to nashville :) ... there's a pharmacy school in nashville so you never know - if loma linda pharmacy school says no, then maybe i'll take the PCAT & set my sights outside of california for the next go-around :) ... there's a pharmacy school in hawaii too, you know? wouldn't that be a fun experience! :)
NEhoo - now i'm just babbling - i'd better get going - auds 'n i have a date to meet j @ barnes 'n noble (escondido) after he gets off work so i can go to school tonight :) ... calculus II, here i come!
omg - speaking of calculus II - my teacher (i'll call him dr. b) - almost had a nervous breakdown last week - IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE CLASS ... someone had raised his hand & asked a question & dr. b ended up talking about something that had NOTHING at all to do with the question asked of him ... several students started snickering & giggling behind his back & dr. b freaked out & started ranting about how he had been an associate prof. @ rice university & that he had taught graduate level math & physics at the phD level ... he went on & on about how he did not deserve to have to go through the "mental anguish" of teaching "basic" math classes to students who are disrespectful & (he did not say the word, but it was implied) "retarded" ... we were still reeling from his referring to calc II as "basic" when he pulled out a box of transparencies with copies of recommendation letters written by previous students & co-professors from rice university & UC santa barbara, etc, and before we knew what had hit us, he was reading these recommendation letters word for word ... the letters spoke of how interesting & lively his lectures were (so far in this class he had read almost entirely from the book - so no, he hadn't been lively at all), and how he was always willing to work one-on-one with students on their questions (so not true! one of the smarter kids in class had asked him to slow down his teaching a little bit & he had rolled his eyes & did not even acknowledge the request - then later, someone raised their hand to ask a question & he steadfastly ignored them until another student verbally pointed it out & dr. b had no choice but to answer what he probably considered an inane "basic" math question) ... whoever that teacher had been who had taught at graduate level @ rice university back in the early 90s is no longer that same man - he hated teaching, one can obviously tell ... last tuesday, i arrived in class to find ppl on their way out & when i asked them what was going on, someone posted a sign on the door that said class was cancelled for the day ... "i guess he decided not to teach today - i heard someone pissed him off before class started & he just left & said he wasn't going to be aggravated," some guy said with a satisfied smirk on his face & i felt, i don't know, sorry for dr. b, i guess? he's not that great a teacher so far, but i was really hoping i could get calc II out of the way this summer ... if he decides to have a mental breakdown, then i don't know what the future of this class is going to be! well, hopefully, if they decide to send in a replacement, it'll be someone like the teacher i had for calc I ... prof. jones was cool - he actually got me to LIKE calculus!
well, now i'm REALLY babbling - i'd better get going or auds 'n i will be late!
talk to y'all later,
~ k
