feeling loved ...

WHAT A NICE GUY!

I came home from church yesterday in a bit of a funk over an argument with the sibling_unit ... that, and the sweltering, sizzling, bacon-frying-on-the-sidewalk weather we've been experiencing all day long had been putting me on edge, making me feel like I had lost 10 pounds of water weight from as simple a movement as blinking. I wasn't particularly excited about walking into our apartment to get out of the heat. Due to financial constraints, it has been an unusual event to walk into our apartment after a long day at work with the air conditioning on. Usually, the fans are on full-blast, but the air they are blasting out is just about as heated as the air outside. Hoping to conserve money, I completely understand where Josh is coming from, so I am understanding and consider it a special occasion when Josh allows me to turn the AC on ...

This time around, I opened the apartment door and was met with a blast of refreshing, cold air. Hmmmm ... this can't be right! I thought to myself as I walked into our bedroom and found my husband laid out, spread-eagle, and snoring in complete relaxation on the bed. Beside him, on my bedside table, stood a potted plant - a purple orchid plant, to be specific - and it trembled gently under the force of the cool air coming out of the AC vent above it.

"What in the world ... What is this for?!?" I said, quite inconsiderately, seeing as the poor man was obviously exhausted from working all day.

Languidly, he opened his pretty green-gold eyes and turned to face me, smiling sweetly, "Oh ... yeah, I got those for you."

"Wow ... uhm ... Thank you ... but why?"

"No reason at all ... Just went to Vons and told the lady I needed to get my wife something nice because she's 7 months pregnant and it's been so hot lately - AND she's been miserable."

I had no idea my whining about the heat actually made its way to his ears over the sports TV announcer's constantly peppy talking. Nevertheless, my heart melted in the most cliche of ways, and I jumped into bed - straight into his arms where I cuddled with him and felt like the luckiest, most blessed, most fortunate girl in the world.

Later, I asked him about the AC being turned on - as it turns out, he was talking with a customer at work who knew quite a bit about AC systems and was soon informed that keeping the AC on all day would actually be more cost efficient than only turning it on during the most heated parts of the day ... apparently, maintaining a cool temp all day long is simply less expensive than making the AC work ten times harder to get to its goal ...

First thing this morning, I wake up to his Old Spice-scented, freshly bathed face nuzzling me awake. "Did you turn the AC off last night?" he asked.

"Yeah ... I wasn't sure you wanted it on all night," I said, turning my head away as I spoke - of course, it doesn't matter how long you're married, morning breath is icky and there is no need to subject a perfectly sweet husband to such torture.

"Well, I turned it back on so you don't get too hot today," he said, kissing me, then kissing my belly to bid me and our baby good-bye for the day.

Awwww ... God must really love me or something ...
